Our work with British Gymnastics to update clothing policy

British Gymnastics announced our work with them to review the impact of clothing on performance and participation across all gymnastics disciplines.

British Gymnastics announced in March 2026 our work with them to review the impact of clothing on performance and participation across all gymnastics disciplines.

Following this, we are working together to update their Gymnastics Clothing Policy. One of the most interesting parts of this project has been how the current points system interacts with clothing requirements and policy decisions. This will be a key aspect of our report - due to be released early next year.

“We know some people love the clothing they wear for gymnastics and we don’t want to take that away – but we also know that isn’t the experience for everyone. Gymnastics is an amazing sport, and we would never want anyone to miss out on that, and feel like they have to leave the sport or that gymnastics isn’t for them simply because they do not feel they can choose clothing that is right for them.” - Ally Litte, Comms Manager

If you’re in the gymnastics community, we would like to confirm that there is support already for all gymnasts to wear shorts or leggings, so long as they are safe in their disciplines - in all national and regional competitions.
